Chilean exporter Subsole was awarded ‘Best Supplier in the Southern Hemisphere’ by Tesco of London during a ceremony on November 19 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. Tesco’s "Produce Grower & Supplier Awards 2009" were held during their annual gala dinner and recognized the commitment of suppliers to the British supermarket chain. Subsole, based in Santiago, exports citrus, avocados, grapes, cherries and kiwi from Chile.

Exporter Subsole was chosen as the winner in the category "International Grower & Supplier of the Year Award” in the Southern Hemisphere. The award acknowledges the work and commitment shown by the company to understand and support the business of Tesco. Tim Lee, Produce Manager for Tesco, said, "This award recognizes the dedication and hard work of our suppliers."

Tesco is the third largest supermarket chain in the world after Wal-Mart and Carrefour, with 4,300 stores worldwide and recorded sales of $ 99.7 billion. It currently operates in China, Czech Republic, Hungary, India, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, UK, and the U.S.

In a letter to the his team, Miguel Allamand, Subsole President, noted, “This is a tremendous recognition, not only for Subsole, but also for Chile -- a small country, which from this remote corner of the world is capable of competing against many other countries and companies, with excellence in both fruit quality and service, and win this award. We have every right to be proud."

"This award should be a call to keep working and become even better, to push the boundaries of what seems possible and to deliver ever more value to industry," Allamand emphasized. “And furthermore, to do so in an atmosphere of profound humanity because we can never lose sight that the ultimate goal of the company is the good of men and women who are part of this business: consumers, exporters, truckers, packers, farmers, and workers.”
