   Kathy Kinter Phelps Bids Farewell To Baking Industry

WASHINGTON, D.C. – It is with a heavy heart that the American Bakers Association (ABA) announces that Kathy Kinter Phelps will be leaving her post at ABA to focus on a family matter that requires her full time and attention. For 20 years, Phelps has served the baking industry on the Biscuit & Cracker Manufacturers’ Association (B&CMA) professional staff and recently, with the merger of ABA and B&CMA, as ABA’s Assistant Director of Education and Membership Service. Phelps’ dedication to the members and passion for the baking industry is evidenced by the exceptionally high regard in which she is held.

“Kathy has been such an important factor in the success of B&CMA for many years,” said Bill Quigg, President of Richmond Baking. “Her kind spirit, joyful attitude and genuine care for the members of our group of cookie and cracker bakers will always be appreciated, along with the fond memories of her friendship.”

“Kathy has been a wonderful advocate for B&CMA, its mission and members for twenty years. She has always been a positive, encouraging supporter for all segments of the organization,” said Todd Wallin, President of Ellison Bakery. “Her quiet leadership, dedication, insight and love of the membership has made it a joy to be involved with this organization. We will certainly miss her as she moves on to another phase in her life.”   

“Kathy has been the mainstay of cookie and cracker education for many years. She developed the Correspondence Course and came to know and support the students through their training. Her knowledge and personal touch built the programs into the industry standard,” said Senior Advisor to the President & CEO: B&CMA Transition & Development Dave Van Laar. “She developed close ties with the members and faithfully saw to their needs. Her welcoming smile and caring demeanor were hallmarks of our meetings. I came to appreciate Kathy’s professionalism over the last three years and her dedication to our members will be missed.”

“Passion, dedication and fun all describe Kathy,” said ABA President and CEO Robb MacKie. “Kathy’s departure leaves a big void for the members and professional team who consider her family, however I applaud her dedication to her own family. Family always comes first and Kathy is right to focus her attention where it is needed most.”

“It is with great pride that I can say I’ve worked in the best (and most delicious) industry there is. For twenty years, I have had the honor to serve the members, and I have enjoyed every minute,” said Phelps. “It has been my pleasure to work for and with members, students and friends – the most kind and hard-working folks I know.”

Phelps will continue her work for ABA on a part-time basis over the next several weeks.
