WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Bakers Association (ABA) is honored to announce that former White House Vice President Dick Cheney will serve as the American Bakers Political Action Committee (PAC) Dinner keynote speaker during the 2018 ABA Convention.

Cheney will expound upon his highly esteemed, national leadership in both public service and the private sector. Known for his expertise in national security matters following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the former Secretary of Defense and White House Chief of Staff will discuss how a strong national economy relates to a strong national defense.

“We are thrilled to offer attendees exclusive access to a high-profile political insider with deep knowledge of how to effectively lead a nation at this year’s American Bakers PAC Events,” said American Bakers PAC Chairman Steve Avera, Flowers Foods. “We look forward to hearing Vice President Cheney’s insightful analysis of global strategy and trade policy, from his top-tier executive background, during this important industry event.”

“Given the increased attention to global hotspots and international trade, we are fortunate to have the former Vice President with us to share his insights and thoughts,” said ABA President and CEO Robb MacKie. “Who better to discuss America’s leadership on the world stage than one of the most qualified leaders in recent years?”

Cheney was elected to the House of Representatives in his home state of Wyo. in 1978 and was reelected to that position five times. He served as House Republican Minority Whip. During President Bush’s term, Vice President Cheney guided American strategy in Operation Just Cause in Panama and Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf. In 1991, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Following his tenure at the Pentagon, Cheney served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Halliburton Company in Dallas, Tex. In 2000, Bush asked Cheney to serve as his running mate, and on January 20, 2001, President Bush and Vice President Cheney were inaugurated, serving two terms during some the most difficult times in the country’s history.

“To have Vice President Cheney with us for the American Bakers PAC events at the ABA Convention is an incredible honor and a very special opportunity for PAC contributors,” said ABA Senior Political Director Kelly Knowles. “With the upcoming mid-term elections in November, ABA members understand it is more important than ever for the political action committee of grain-based foods to be well positioned to support federal candidates who stand with the baking industry.”

A limited number of high-dollar donors will be able to meet personally with Cheney during a VIP Townhall discussion prior to the dinner. Funds raised allow the American Bakers PAC to support candidates whose positions and decisions directly impact the baking industry.

The American Bakers PAC Dinner is a ticketed event being held on Monday evening, April 16, during the ABA Convention. Invitations and ticket order forms have been distributed to authorized ABA members.
