A Month-Long Celebration Of Our Favorite Protein, Beef
by The Pennsylvania Beef Council
Posted: Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 4:11PM EDT

Bedford –May is Beef Month in PA! Throughout the month of May, the PA Beef Council (PBC) is sharing the people raising beef along with the great attributes of Beef as part of a healthy diet.

The month-long celebration has allowed PBC to extend these messages on various platforms including radio, social media, and print publications. The overarching goal is to encourage consumers to gear up for the grilling season with beef.

Local officials, beef farmers, and media gathered at Conzatti’s Italian Market, Johnstown, on Monday, May 21, to celebrate May as Beef Month. Through a collaborative effort, the two organizations are making a $1,000 donation to benefit St. Vincent DePaul “Food For Families.” It is our hope that this effort will help serve beef, as one powerful protein, to families in need. Deputy Greg Hostetter, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture was on hand to offer remarks and present the official proclamation.

“We’re here today because often times the best way to observe and to celebrate something is to give back to our local communities,” said Hostetter. “I applaud and commend the partnership observed here today. When we work together, everyone benefits.”

The PBC is a nonprofit organization charged with the education and promotion of beef and beef products in Pennsylvania. The PBC works on behalf of 25,000 beef, dairy and veal producers in the Commonwealth. PBC’s mission is to be a unified voice for beef and veal partners by sharing their legacy of commitment with the families enjoying dinner with us.

For over 25 years the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has operated Food For Families in the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese. Following the call to feed the hungry, the Society operates two food banks and two Family Kitchens, and five food pantries serving Altoona, Carrolltown, Ebensburg, Johnstown, and Patton. The mission at St. Vincent DePaul, Food for Families is to serve and their goal is to ensure no one goes hungry. Daily the Food For Families Kitchen serves 150-200 people.

“Beef is a great tasting, high-quality protein packed with 10 essential nutrients for optimal health,” noted Pennsylvania Beef Council Executive Director Bridget Bingham. “This effort allows us to help provide those in need with a full dinner plate, centered on a nutrient dense protein.”
