YONKERS, NY – Jac. Vandenberg, Inc., a leading U.S. fresh produce importer , is proud to be presenting their new plastic-free, zero-waste packaging for their Sunrays brand at the PMA Fresh Summit this week.

Sunrays, this first give back mandarin orange brand, was launched in June 2017 and has since gained national consumer recognition for its consistent top eating quality and commitment to building brighter futures for children across the United States. For every bag and box packed, Sunrays makes a donation to the internationally renowned charitable organization, Save the Children allowing consumers to “snack with impact’. Now, Jac Vandenberg, Inc. is going a step further and doubling the impact with the Sunrays brand by introducing plastic-free, zero-waste packs.

“We are seeing more mand more of the negative impacts plastic is having on our environment and we felt it was our responsibility to help find a solution for that. So many industries rely on plastic packaging and it’s certainly not an easy task to quit plastic altogether, but we felt we could start taking steps to reduce our reliance on plastic,” said John Paap. “With Sunrays, we already have such a great social impact that we felt it was the perfect next step to introduce a great environmental impact.”

In effort to reduce their use on plastic, Jac. Vandenberg designed two unique plastic-free packs for their Sunrays mandarin oranges. The first pack is a 3-lb. box which is made from fully sustainable resources which are certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. The 3-lb. boxes are packed into a display-ready master carton which encourage consumers to “Make the green choice”. The second pack is a 2-piece snack box which is also made from fully sustainable resources and certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. The 2-piece snack boxes are a great pack to feature at checkout lanes or in mini-markets as an alternative to candy or other less-healthy snack options.

“With Sunrays, we want the consumer to not only enjoy a great tasting, healthy snack but also feel good knowing that their snack choice is making a huge impact – socially and now environmentally,” said John Paap. “When we go shopping, our purchases are a vote for the kind of future we want to live in. When consumers chose Sunrays, they are voting for a future that is bright for our children and our planet. How sweet is that?”

PMA Fresh Summit attendees can stop by the Just 4 Kids showcase to view the new plastic-free packaging. Additionally, attendees can visit Jac. Vandenberg at booth #3505 to see the new packaging up close and participate in a fun event that gives back to children in need.
