 Automated Beef Grading Hits A Snag, Causing A Dip In Prime Grade Beef Supply

If you enjoy eating or smoking Prime grade beef, prepare for a dip in the national supply. A new carcass camera-grading technology, likely due to inaccuracy, provided elevated marbling scores to USDA graders from February through mid-October. The Gigabit Ethernet, or “Gig E,” is used to determine the grade of half the nation’s beef, and a recent correction in the calibration has sent the supply of Prime and Choice beef tumbling down.


 Three More Iowa Companies Shipping Beef To China

More Iowa companies are beginning to sell beef to China, which started allowing imports of U.S. beef in late June. China placed a ban on U.S. beef in 2003 after a scare over mad cow disease.

Winter is rolling into the Northeast, but the demand for plant-based burgers is still sizzling hot with the recent addition of 153 Shaw’s locations carrying the wildly popular Beyond Burger. Shaw’s locations throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont will begin carrying The Beyond Burger on-shelf starting November 20. The Beyond Burger is the world’s first plant-based burger that looks, cooks and satisfies so much like beef, it’s sold in the meat case at more than 4,300 grocery stores nationwide.
