Crustacea Seafood Company has signed on to the National Fisheries Institute’s Crab Council bringing the sustainability group’s roster to 33 companies. Newly formed, Crustacea imports blue swimming crab from Southeast Asia, operating out of Katy, Texas.


 US Customs & Border Protection Report To Congress Highlights Effectiveness Of Antidumping Duty Orders On Shrimp

Every year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is required by law to provide a report to Congress regarding enforcement of antidumping and countervailing duty orders over the prior fiscal year (FY). CBP’s report for FY2016 was presented to Congress on November 17, 2017, but was made available to the public for the first time this week.


 US Shrimp Trade Deficit Reaches $6.4B In 2017

In October of last year, NOAA Fisheries published the Fisheries of the United States for 2016. For the first time, the federal agency’s yearbook of fishery statistics highlighted the massive seafood trade deficit that the United States runs with the rest of the world. Specifically, NOAA Fisheries reported that in 2016, the United States’ seafood trade deficit with Asian nations was $6.98 billion. Shrimp, on its own, accounted for 46% of the total seafood trade deficit with these countries.


 USDA Catfish Products Purchase Program Announced

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced plans to purchase catfish products for distribution to various food nutrition assistance programs. The purchase will be made under the authority of Section 32 of the Act of August 24, 1935, with the purpose to encourage the continued domestic consumption of these products by diverting them from the normal channels of trade and commerce.
