EAST FALMOUTH — The Falmouth Board of Selectmen approved a license transfer via a split vote July 31 for a 23-acre aquaculture grant established in 1877 and believed to be the oldest of its kind in the state.

Stipulations to the license call for the recipient, Cape Cod Oyster Company, to make certain the markers for the oyster beds don’t stray into the navigational channel in that area of Waquoit Bay, and that the company’s use of a boat ramp doesn’t hinder members of the public from launching their crafts.

The town’s shellfish constable, Charles Martinsen, will monitor the operation.

Cape Cod Oyster Company had submitted a request June 6 that the license for the oyster farm, located on the Seapit River, be transferred from Atlantic Oysters LLC.
