Katama Bay oyster farms have been closed for two weeks following three confirmed cases of Vibrio parahaemolyticus illness tied to oysters from the area.

A notice from the state Department of Health and Division of Marine Fisheries said the closure comes after three confirmed cases of Vibrio linked to consumption of raw oysters harvested earlier this month from Katama Bay.

The two-week closure began Friday, Sept. 29. Oysters cannot be harvested from the bay, which is home to a dozen thriving oyster farms, during that time. The closure is scheduled to end before sunrise on Oct. 13.
