A new wholesale bakery could be on the rise in Anne Arundel County, but the county’s zoning codes would need updating before the business could begin fermenting.

Legislation updating the county’s zoning law will go before the County Council on Monday. It would allow wholesale bakeries within industrial zoning districts. If no significant amendments are approved, the council can pass the legislation Monday.

A bakery company named Crest Hill Bakery had shown interest in buying a building at 7200 Standard Drive, but would be unable to open its wholesale bakery there because of the zoning code, said Owen McEvoy, county executive spokesman.
