Dozens of new jobs and millions of dollars will be coming to Chaves County now that a meat processing company opens has opened its first facility in New Mexico. In exchange, it will receive thousands in state funding.

Gov. Susana Martinez announced Wednesday afternoon USA Beef Packing will invest more than $5.4 million to renovate its meat processing facility, which is operational and ramping up production. It is located on a 14-acre parcel east of Roswell, according to the Roswell Daily Record. Fifty-seven food processing jobs will come along with it, as will a place for local cattle farmers to do their business closer to home.

A statement from the governor's office said the 20,000-square-foot facility will help cut production costs for those farmers and get their meat and dairy to market faster.
