Safeway's Eastern Division Has Its Third New Chief In Three Years

Dan Valenzuela's stint as head of Safeway's Eastern division is over.

Thirteen months after Albertsons Cos., Safeway's parent, named Valenzuela president of the 125-store division, he's been replaced by another industry veteran — the third person to lead Safeway's Virginia, D.C., Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania stores in three years.

Jim Perkins, Albertsons' executive vice president of retail operations and special projects and the president of its Acme stores division, has taken over Safeway Eastern while Valenzuela has "left the company to pursue other opportunities," an Albertsons spokeswoman said.
