UPTON – Fivefork flower farm was awarded $55,000 in state grant money last week to help implement renewable energy systems and improve energy efficiency. Fivefork is one of 36 farms in Massachusetts chosen for the program.

The grants are funded through the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources’ (MDAR) Agricultural Energy Grant Program (AgEnergy) in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER). The farms receiving funding are projected to save farmers more than $200,000 annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 660 tons each year, according to a press release put out by Statehouse.

Fivefork Farm received two grants – One for a 24.84 kW solar array for $50,000, and another grant for a centralized walk-in cooler worth $25,000. The grants were awarded in an attempt to keep Massachusetts ahead of the curve when in it comes to environmental preservation.
