National Fisheries Institute Shines Light On Health Benefits Of Seafood During American Heart Month

McLEAN, Va. – The National Fisheries Institute’s Dish on Fish seafood education initiative wrapped February’s American Heart Month campaign with more than 8.5 million impressions under its belt. The goal of the campaign was to leverage influential digital placements to promote seafood for its delicious taste, ease of preparation and, most notably, its heart-healthy benefits.

Kicking off the month with a coveted story titled “Easy Ways to Make Your Diet More Heart-Healthy” in the millennial-focused outlet Brit + Co, February’s campaign included many high-impact third-party endorsements. Content featuring the heart-healthy advantages of seafood and a variety of seafood species came in the form of recipe placements from four seafood-loving digital tastemakers and trusted dietitians.

These influential tastemakers and dietitians developed the following recipes to inspire craveability among their engaged audiences, tapping into several leading food trends of the moment:

“Since the launch of Dish on Fish nearly two years ago, we’ve leveraged the power of third-party experts and online influencers to draw attention to the recommendation of 2-3 servings of seafood per week set forth in the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans,” explained Judy Dashiell, Senior Vice President with the National Fisheries Institute.

“We are working for NFI Members to find new, relevant ways to promote seafood both in- and out-of-home. One way we do this is by tapping into our influencer partners audiences. Our goal is to create a big impact by leveraging these trusted sources to endorse seafood and inspire seafood consumption through recipes, recommendations, tips and information,” Dashiell continued.

One great benefit of digital exposure on third-party channels is the long-term virality and engagement potential that comes with it. Thanks to the added amplification from Dish on Fish’s FacebookPinterest and Twitter, engagement and awareness for February’s campaign content continues to rise well past its launch date.

The American Heart Month activity marked the first of three initiatives planned for the year by the Dish on Fish seafood education initiative. Just in time for cookout season, a spotlight on grilling is planned for May. It will be followed by a focus on National Seafood Month in October.
