Canada's Meat Processing Industry Expects U.S. Conformity Following WTO COOL Decision

Canada’s meat processing industry expects the United States to modify its current requirements following a June 29 decision by the World Trade Organization Appellate Body on the Country of Origin Labelling (COOL) measures the U.S. imposes on meat products. In today’s announcement, the Appellate Body confirmed the portion of a November 18, 2011 determination by a WTO Dispute Settlement Panel that found U.S. requirements discriminate against live cattle and hogs imported into the U.S. from Canada and are inconsistent with international trade obligations.

Grower-Shipper Association Raises Over $43,000 For School Salad Bars

More than 15 salad bars are coming to schools in the Salinas/Monterey County area, thanks to the Grower-Shipper Association of Central California (GSA). Last weekend at the 74th Annual GSA Golf Tournament and Gala Events, Association Chairwoman Margaret D’Arrigo-Martin, Taylor Farms, and produce industry leaders raised more than $43,000 to support the Grower-Shipper Association Foundation’s More Produce in Schools Program and United Fresh Produce Association Foundation’s campaign to place salad bars in schools across the country.

New Jersey Peaches Braved Early Weather & Came Through With A Good Crop

“It has been a rocky road this spring with the very early bloom and the temperatures near freezing, but we have come through with a very good crop,” .says Santo John Maccherone, chair of the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council.   “I had white fleshed nectarines blooming in early March,” he says, “but surprisingly I looked at those blocks when we started thinning and they were heavy with fruit”.
