Consolidated Biscuit Drops Tecumseh, MI Plans

TECUMSEH, Mich. — Consolidated Biscuit will not be coming to Tecumseh. In a move described by city officials as “disappointing,” CBC officials informed the city that Wind Point Partners of Illinois is buying the company, but that Tecumseh Bakery LLC is not part of the sale.

“The equity company is not in the business of baking cookies,” said Tecumseh City Manager Kevin Welch. “The assumption was this came out of the blue. Somebody made (CBC)an offer they couldn’t refuse.”

What this means for the former Tecumseh Products facility in the southeast section of the city is not known at this time. The only certainties are that it will not become a bakery and that Tecumseh Products will continue to rent a portion of the office space.

Welch said he was told several weeks ago by Jim Appold, president of CBC, that the sale to Wind Point could happen. The deal was confirmed Saturday in a telephone call to Welch, and Appold broke the news to CBC employees Monday. The transaction is expected to be completed in the next few weeks.
