In its response to HHS and USDA on the 2015 Dietary Guideline Advisory Committee Report, the eleven-member, farm-to-fork, Grain Chain focused on detailed comments justifying the retention of the DGAC 2010 recommendation for six servings of grains including a balance between whole and enriched grains. The comments also called on the Agencies to clarify the difference between enriched and refined grains. The comments provided additional references to scientific research and data to bolster the crucial role of enriched grains in the diet as well as highlighted that all grain-based foods can be part of a healthy diet. The comments also called on the Agencies to reject the Report recommendations for both limiting added sugar to no more than 10 percent of total calories, and restricting sodium to less than 2300 mg per day.
