IDDBA 19 Cake Decorating Challenge Contestants Announced

Madison, WI — IDDBA has announced the three contestants chosen to participate in the 24th annual Cake Decorating Challenge to be held at IDDBA 19 in Orlando, June 2-4. Over the course of the IDDBA 19 show, contestants will create bakery case cakes, a tiered special occasion cake, and themed/custom design cakes. They’ll compete for best tasting cake, People’s Choice Awards, and overall first, second, and third place trophies.

The decorators receiving an all-expense paid trip to compete are:

  • Joni Graham, Loblaw Companies Ltd., Toronto, ON. Joni is a self-taught decorator who gained and refined her skills through practice and passion. She started from home 17 years ago and has been decorating for Loblaw Companies Ltd. affiliate store Carmen’s Independent City Market for three years.
  • Dana Nygaard, Hy-Vee, Robbinsdale, MN. Dana began working at Hy-Vee as a bakery/sweet shop clerk before becoming a cake decorator. Though she had no prior experience Dana became an official decorator in 2017 through Hy-Vee’s cake decorating training courses.
  • Jess Tatham, Publix, Gulf Breeze, FL. Jess has five years of experience decorating cakes and before starting at Publix she had no knowledge about decorating. She learned her way around the cake decorating life through in-store Publix decorators who trained her.

Not only will participants gain recognition for themselves and their store through the Cake Decorating Challenge, but they’ll further advance their skills and build a network, uncover more potential, and discover cutting edge trends and techniques to bring back to their store.

Attendees can watch these decorators create edible works of art and vote on their favorite each day for the People’s Choice Award.

IDDBA’s annual tradeshow, IDDBA 19, runs June 2-4 at the Orange County Convention Center. Interested in attending?Learn more about our speaker lineup, networking opportunities, and the educational opportunities IDDBA 19 has to offer.
