Batches bakery in the Third Ward is going wholesale and special orders only. The storefront at 401 E. Erie St. will close after May 10.
Dan Jacobs of the JVR Group (Dandan, EsterEv, Fauntleroy) said the bakery’s growth has been in wholesale and in special orders, such as wedding cakes and trays of baked goods for meetings, more so than in the coffee and baked goods it sells by the piece.
The bakery is across the street from Dandan and EsterEv, tucked in a small corner shop in the Domus apartment building. Jacobs said the growing wholesale business was putting stress on the small pastry kitchen.
