Pan-O-Gold Baking Co. Achieves Energy Star Challenge For Industry

ST. CLOUD, Minn.– The ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry has recognized Pan-O-Gold Baking Company’s Sun Prairie facility for improving their energy efficiency by 13.4% over the past 4 years. In a positive step forward, the Wisconsin bakery achieved such efficiencies through retrofit energy efficient lighting, computer controlled compressed air systems, and optimal production scheduling, all allowing for less energy use.

The changes implemented by Pan-O-Gold to the Sun Prairie plant resulted in a reduction of over 20,500 MMBtu’s in 2015 alone. This energy savings is equivalent to fueling 266.3 cars for a year! “We are very committed to protecting the environment through energy efficiency and proud of the work we've done company-wide to help protect the environment by improving our energy performance," said Bob Gartland, SVP and General Manager. "The recognition we've received from the EPA is a nice way to demonstrate the progress we're making toward our goals to improve our efficiency."

Pan-O-Gold’s other baking facilities, located in St. Cloud, Minnesota and Fargo, North Dakota, are currently in the process of achieving the Energy Star Challenge through solar arrays, computer climate controls, high efficiency lighting and thermal recovery and re-use.

The ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry is a national call-to-action to improve the energy efficiency of America's industrial facilities by 10 percent or more. Through the Challenge for Industry, EPA recognizes industrial sites that improve their energy efficiency by 10 percent within five years.
