Why Are Corso's Cookies Selling Like Hot Cakes?

Geddes, N.Y. — Growing sales to national retailers such as Costco and Wal-Mart are forcing a quiet suburban Syracuse company to find a bigger place to make its popular decorated cookies.

Corso's Cookies and its wholesale affiliate, The Decorated Cookie Co., are in discussions with Onondaga Community College about building an $8 million, 40,000-square-foot bakery on the college's campus. The expansion would create approximately 77 new jobs at the companies, which employ 55 people at a bakery on Lakeside Road in Geddes.

If an agreement is reached, the two companies would relocate to the campus under STARTUP-NY, a program that provides 10 years of no state or local taxes for companies that move to State University of New York campuses and create new jobs.
