Zen Cat Gluten-Free Bakery Grows Into A New Greensboro, NC Facility
June 22, 2012 | 2 min to read
Greensboro, NC — Zen Cat Gluten-Free bakery is growing into a new facility in the historic Glenwood neighborhood of Greensboro, North Carolina. Zen Cat is a three-year-old gluten free and vegan bakery that offers baked goods sold to cafes, coffee shops and markets in Greensboro and Durham, NC.
The Glenwood neighborhood has been a “transitional” neighborhood for many years. In the 80’s the neighborhood began to decline. The recent expansion and investment of UNC Greensboro into the Lee Street side of the neighborhood has helped to stimulate renewal and growth into this diverse and historical area.
Zen Cat Bakery’s mission is to create gluten-free foods that taste great – not just to people that who eat vegan or gluten-free. The bakery uses organic and minimally processed ingredients whenever possible. “I want people to feel good about eating a Zen Cat cookie,” said owner Angie Kenny. “It may meet their dietary plan, but they can also feel good that organic fruit and other organic ingredients are used in baking.”
The new kitchen will allow for growth and efficiency, as well as allowing Zen Cat to produce food in a dedicated gluten free facility.
The new Zen Cat bakery is located at 1313 Grove Street, in the Heart of the Glenwood Neighborhood. Bakery orders will be appointment, special orders and wholesale only.
About Zen Cat Bakery
Angie Kenny started Zen Cat Bakery because of changes in her life – she had to go gluten-free, and just wanted to find a “good tasting gluten-free cookie”. When she wasn’t satisfied with off-the-shelf products, she started converting some of her favorite recipes. Zen Cat began by selling gluten-free and vegan baked goods in January 2010. Since then the bakery has developed a loyal following in Greensboro and Durham, North Carolina, as well as online through Etsy.com and social media.
