The PreGel AMERICA booth proved to be a show-stopper at the 93rd National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show (NRA) held May 5-8 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The event featured over 1,900 exhibiting companies while attracting more than 61,000 registrants representing all 50 states and over 100 countries worldwide. PreGel’s on-site staff included representatives from across the U.S., PreGel’s headquarters in Reggio Emilia, Italy, Mexico, Canada as well as Brazil.

ABA Urges Senate To Add Jobs To The Economy By Supporting Sugar Reform

Tuesday, the American Bakers Association (ABA) strongly urged the U.S. Senate to vote in favor of an amendment to the Agriculture Food, Farm and Jobs Act, or the Senate Farm Bill, reforming the current U.S. Sugar Program. “The current sugar program costs consumers as much as $3.5 billion a year and sacrifices 20,000 domestic manufacturing jobs annually,” said ABA President and CEO Robb MacKie, in a letter to the Senate. “With today’s anemic job growth, it is unconscionable that Congress would continue to support a program that encourages businesses both large and small to move offshore,” he continued.

Massachusetts Awards Workforce Training Grant To Jacqueline's Gourmet Cookies

Salem's Jacqueline's Gourmet Cookies, located in an office park on Swampscott Road, was awarded $100,650 to train 73 employees. The company expects to create 13 jobs, according to the state. Jacqueline's Gourmet Cookies is a wholesale company that sells frozen products, including cookies, scones and biscuits, that are retailed under private labels, often in the bakery sections of supermarkets.

Minneapolis Whole Grains Summit 2012 Report

Last week Oldways President Sara Baer-Sinnott and I participated in the Whole Grains Summit 2012 held in Minneapolis, along with 300 others from 18 countries. Organized by the Grains for Health Foundation, this event was packed full of thought-provoking presentations and discussions for those of us (like yours truly) who are fascinated by every aspect of whole grains.
