URBANA The Family Resiliency Center and the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Dairy Research Institute®, a non-profit research organization established by America’s dairy farmers today will announce a new partnership that will help fill critical research gaps in how healthy eating habits are formed from the earliest ages. The “STRONG Kids 2: A cells-to-society approach to nutrition” project for which Dairy Research Institute is providing $1 million of support over five years, will provide unique insights into how individual biology interacts with the family environment to promote healthy eating habits, including milk and dairy consumption, in young children.

Wisconsin Governor Issues Proclamation Declaring June Dairy Month

Governor Scott Walker released a proclamation declaring June as Wisconsin’s official “Dairy Month.”  Wisconsin’s dairy industry contributes more than $26.5 billion to Wisconsin’s economy per year and employs more than 146,000 people.  With more than 140 cheese plants and nearly 11,000 dairy farms, Wisconsin produces 600 varieties of cheese—nearly double that of any other state, according to the Wisconsin Agricultural Statistics Service and Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board.
