Sunnymel Officially Opens Its New Chicken Slaughterhouse & Cutting Plant

In a ceremony attended by more than 700 guests, Réjean Nadeau, President and CEO of Olymel l.p. and also President of Sunnymel and Thomas Soucy, CEO of Groupe Westco Inc., and Vice President of Sunnymel, took part in the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony, officially inaugurating activities at the new Sunnymel chicken slaughterhouse and cutting plant in the Village of Clair, New Brunswick.

Steak & Burgers Top Choices For Consumers This Grilling Season

Memorial Day weekend officially kicks off the summer grilling season and this year, steaks and burgers top the list of foods that Americans will grill first. A national poll shows steak was the consumers' first choice this year as 29 percent said it would be the first thing they'll grill. Burgers, such as hamburgers, turkey burgers or lamb burgers, came in a close second at 27 percent with chicken and ribs as the third and fourth choices. The poll was conducted by Kelton Research for the American Meat Institute.

Superior Farms Names New Chief Executive Officer

Executive of Agri Beef Co. Rick Stott accepted the position of CEO for Superior Farms Lamb this week. He served as the Executive Vice President of Business Development of Agri Beef, headquartered in Boise, Idaho and with more than 19 years at the company has also served as President of Snake River Farms (a subsidiary of Agri Beef), Agri Beef Vice President, Treasurer and Corporate Controller. Stott has also been a member of the Board of Director for Superior Farms/THCI since 2011.

New Meat Labels Go Into Effect

Shoppers in the U.S. will soon have more information about where their meat comes from after new federal labeling rules went into effect Thursday.

Pair Of Beef Boot Camps A Success

In the highly populated Northeast Corridor of the country, the beef checkoff celebrated Beef Month in May by hosting a pair of Beef Boot Camps to educate retailers and foodservice influencers in the region about beef and the beef industry. The first of those was on May 7 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., followed by a May 15 camp in New Gloucester, Maine for retailers in New England.
