Associated Grocers Recalls Ham Products for Possible Listeria Contamination

Associated Grocers of Maine, importing firm, a Gardiner, Maine, establishment, is recalling approximately 312 pounds of ham products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

National Steak & Poultry Recalls Beef, Possible E. Coli O157:H7 Contamination

National Steak and Poultry is recalling approximately 248,000 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. FSIS became aware of the problem during the course of an investigation of a cluster of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses.

FSIS Seeks Comments On Meat Nutrition Labeling

The US Department of Agricultures Food Safety Inspection Service gave notice on Friday Decmber 18th that it is seeking comments on proposed nutrition labeling of single ingredient ground or chopped meat and poultry products. Specifically, it is requesting comments on fat and lean percentage statements, and what the possible effects of disallowing a lean percentage statement on ground and chopped meat products could be.
