"Stay Home & Grill Out" Summer Grilling Beef Promotion Celebrated

The summer grilling season was celebrated throughout the Northeast this summer, even though some people like to grill at home throughout the seasons. The beef checkoff, through the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative (NEBPI) and the Pennsylvania Beef Council, partnered with 18 retailers throughout the northeast to launch the 2011 Stay Home Grill Out promotion. In total, 315 store locations featured recipe booklets, shelf wobblers and meat department posters from May through September.

E-Z Shop Kitchens, Inc., a Fremont, Ohio, establishment, is recalling an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat, seasoned beef and shredded pork products because they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.

Columbia Supermarkets Unaffected By Reis Meat Contamination

Columbia Hy-Vee, Gerbes and Walmart store managers said Sunday that their stores do not carry any meat products from Reis Meat Processing in Jackson. State Public Health Laboratory testing of vacuum-packed chicken and ground pork products from Reis were found to contain unusually high levels of bacteria, the Department of Health and Senior Services said in a news release Friday.
