Tri State Beef Recalls Beef Products, Possible E. Coli O157:H7 Contamination

Tri State Beef, a Cincinnati, Ohio, establishment, is recalling approximately 228,596 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

Northwestern Meat Recalls Imported Beef, Potential Animal Drug Contaminant

Northwestern Meat, Inc., a Miami, Fla. firm, is recalling approximately 6,240 pounds of frozen boneless beef products imported from Honduras that may contain the animal drug Ivermectin, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. Ivermectin is a broad-spectrum anti-parasitic and is used as a de-worming agent in live animals.

Farmers across Delmarva are working to keep their chickens cool as temperatures soar. Temperatures at or above 100 degrees are deadly to chickens of all ages, said farmer Jim Baxter of Georgetown. Fresh out of the incubator, younger chicks generally handle warm weather better than older birds, Baxter said.

Bill Would Transfer Oversight Of Massachusetts Slaughterhouses

The Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation has offered "strong support" for a bill that will help local farmers by transferring oversight of meat and poultry slaughtering facilities from the state Department of Public Health to the Department of Agricultural Resources.
