The Florida Strawberry Growers Association is seeing red. The Walmart in Plant City offered imported Mexican strawberries until a recent backlash by members of the Strawberry Growers Association, which is fighting for survival for the second consecutive season against their Mexican competitors.

The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) said today that while the U.S. distributors and allied partners welcomed the prospect of a renewed tomato trade deal, the prices called for in the agreement that was reached this weekend are not reasonable and will have a negative impact on U.S. consumers and workers.

US Tomato Growers Tentatively Support Revised Suspension Agreement Covering Fresh Tomatoes From Mexico

After extensive consultations with the U.S. Department of Commerce, domestic tomato growers indicated tentative support for the revisions negotiated by the U.S. Government and Mexican growers.  After being briefed on the tentative agreement, the Florida Tomato Exchange and Certified Greenhouse Farmers released the following statement:
