National Restaurant Association Joins 'Share The Gulf' Sustainability Initiative

As part of its efforts to support sustainability practices in the foodservice industry, the National Restaurant Association today announced it has joined Share the Gulf, a coalition of chefs, restaurateurs, restaurant associations, seafood suppliers, fishermen, consumers and environmentalists working to protect their access to fish in the Gulf States.

Metro Announces The Arrival Of 68 New Products From Chaudière-Appalaches Region

In keeping with the Local Purchasing Policy that it adopted May 1st, 2013, Metro announced the arrival in store of 68 new products from the Chaudière-Appalaches region. In fact, as a result of the pilot project currently underway in that region, 8 suppliers will see several of their products offered in five Metro and two Super C stores: the Metro Laroche & Fils in St-Étienne-de-Lauzon, the Metro Plus Éric Gariépy in St-Nicolas, the Metro in St-Romuald, the Metro Laval Veilleux & Fils in St-Georges, the Metro Plus Robert Desrochers in Lévis, the Super C in Lévis and the Super C in St-Jean-Chrysostome.

Food Industry Alliance Publishes Toolkit For Reducing Food Waste

An alliance of food manufacturers, retailers and foodservice operators announced the release of a toolkit to help businesses in the food sector reduce the amount of food waste sent to landfill. The Best Practices and Emerging Solutions Toolkit was produced by the Food Waste Reduction Alliance (FWRA), a cross-sector industry initiative led by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI), the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) and the National Restaurant Association (NRA).
