The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) is appealing to consumers to consider environmental sustainability when deciding whether to buy farmed Atlantic salmon. A recent decision by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to allow grow-out, production and sale of open net pen farmed salmon infected by infectious salmon anemia (ISA) in Nova Scotia is causing controversy throughout Canada and into the United States. It is also raising awareness among consumers of their importance in deciding which products end up on supermarket shelves. “Consumers who choose food grown in an environmentally-sustainable manner can make all the difference, and farmed Atlantic salmon is a good example,” said Sue Scott, VP of Communications, Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF).

ZIP International Group LLC is recalling Dry Salted Fish (bream) because the product was found to be uneviscerated, and has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.
