ASMI Announces Alaska Pollock Harvest Season

The harvest season for Alaska pollock, the nation's largest fishery, opens Sunday, January 20. The 2013 Alaska pollock Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for the Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands and Gulf of Alaska is 1,387,146 metric tons, 3.8% higher than last year's TAC of 1,335,944 metric tons. Alaska pollock accounts for approximately 30% of all U.S. seafood landings by weight.

Gulf Of Maine Cod Catch Limits Could Be Cut Up To 82%

Landings of inshore or Gulf of Maine cod, already cut by 22 percent for the 2012 fishing year that ends April 30, could be further reduced by between 76.8 percent and 82.6 percent for each of the next three years, according to an announcement today by NOAA’s New England Regional Fishery Management Council.

MO Senator Sponsors Bill To Label Genetically Modified Meat & Fish

Legislation filed in the Missouri Senate would require all genetically modified meats and fish raised and sold in the state to be labeled as such. The bill is sponsored by Democrat Jamilah Nasheed of St. Louis.  She says people have a right to know what they’re putting in their bodies.
