Senators Blumenthal, Lieberman Introduce Shellfish Equity Act

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) today introduced the Shellfish Equity Act, which will add shellfish to the list of eligible crops that are covered by two disaster relief programs administered by the United States Department of Agriculture. During Tropical Storm Irene, shellfish farmers along the Connecticut coastline were adversely affected, yet were ineligible to receive disaster assistance from the Department of Agriculture. The Shellfish Equity Act would address that inequality.

New Shrimp Processing Company To Locate In Baton Rouge

NOAA Releases Results Of 2011 Bering Sea Groundfish Survey

How much fish and crab can be sustainably caught by fishers in the Bering Sea next year? The annual process to set total allowable catch levels for various groundfish and crab species in the Bering Sea took a big step forward this week, when NOAA scientists from the Alaska Fisheries Science Center completed calculating the initial biomass estimates from the 2011 eastern Bering Sea survey.
