Oberweis Dairy has been delivering milk in glass bottles to homes in the Springfield area for 10 years, but the service recently expanded to include everything from beef roasts and pizza to coffee beans and brownies.

“What we’ve realized is that there are a lot of people who either can’t get out or otherwise need home delivery service. It comes once a week, right to your front porch,” said Jim Kent, Oberweis sales representative for downstate Illinois.

Weekly deliveries are made between midnight and 7 a.m. and coolers are provided to customers at no cost. Dry ice is used in the summer to keep icy foods frozen.

The Oberweis website, www.oberweis.com, says there is a $2.99 fee per delivery, but Kent said there is no delivery charge in the Springfield area.
