LISLE, Illinois — Quality Chekd Dairies announced that Umpqua Dairy Products Company of Roseburg, Oregon was the recipient of the 2013 Production Excellence Award as the best single production plant within the Quality Chekd membership. For this achievement Umpqua Dairy will receive a commemorative grandfather clock.

This recognition confirms our team’s commitment to producing and delivering only the highest quality products, and winning this award serves as inspiration and motivation to continue along this path for the benefit of our customers.”
The selection criteria for Production Excellence Award finalists includes a plant audit and evaluation of all plant processes and systems for assuring product quality, as well as monthly laboratory test scores. Umpqua Dairy’s facility earned the highest scores among member facilities for best overall production results and total quality at a single plant location. Selected as Production Excellence Award finalists this year were Quality Chekd members Hiland Dairy Foods Company (Norman, OK), Hiland-Roberts Ice Cream Company (Norfolk, NE) and Sunshine Dairy Foods East (Portland, OR).
“Competition among our members for the Production Excellence Award is intense, as each aspires to achieve and maintain superior standards of quality as a matter of everyday operation,” says Peter Horvath, president of Quality Chekd. “This award signifies superior production excellence, and this year Umpqua Dairy of Roseburg, OR, clearly stood out among the membership.”
In addition, Umpqua Dairy was recognized with 13 Merit Of Excellence Awards in Marketing, as well as, Merit of Excellence Awards in Milk, Ice Cream and Cultured dairy product quality.
And last, but not least, Umpqua Dairy Small Curd Cottage Cheese and Umpqua Vanilla Ice Cream were selected by an independent panel of judges and deemed as the “National Best of Show” from all the submitted entries with in the Quality Chekd membership.
Quality Chekd, a member-owned organization of independent dairy processors, presented the awards at its 2013 QCS Leadership Conference held April 21st – 23rd at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside in New Orleans, Louisiana.
