2011 Portrait of a Wisconsin Artisan Cheesemaker Calendar On Sale Sept. 1

Madison, WI – Twelve Wisconsin artisan cheesemakers are set to become pin-up cheese celebrities, as the first-ever 2011 Portrait of a Wisconsin Artisan Cheesemaker calendar goes on sale Sept. 1.

Produced by Wisconsin Cheese Originals, an organization dedicated to showcasing Wisconsin artisan cheeses, the 2011 calendar introduces readers to a dozen different Wisconsin cheesemakers through the amazing photography of Becca Dilley (The Master Cheesemakers of Wisconsin), design by Mauro Magellan (rock ‘n roll drummer of the Georgia Satellites), and cheesemaker profiles written by Jeanne Carpenter (cheese geek blogger).

The calendar goes on sale Sept. 1 for $19.95 here, as well as at a handful of select specialty outlets around the country, including Fromagination in Madison, Wis. The calendar will also be for sale at the Second Annual Wisconsin Original Cheese Festival, November 5 – 7, at the Monona Terrace in Madison. Tickets for the festival go on sale to the public on Sept. 20.

A portion of all calendar proceeds go toward Wisconsin Cheese Originals’ annual $2,500 Wisconsin Licensed Cheesemaker Scholarship, available to any state resident intending to pursue a cheesemaker license. Up and coming farmstead goat cheesemaker Katie Hedrich, the 2010 scholarship recipient, is one of the 12 cheesemakers featured in this year’s calendar.

Featured on the cover is Wisconsin cheesemaker Andy Hatch, holding his original Pleasant Ridge Reserve, which was just named Best of Show at the American Cheese Society annual competition on Aug. 28 in Seattle. The cheese took top prize out of 1,462 entries from the United States, Canada and Mexico. The 2011 Wisconsin cheesemaker calendar will be the first of three collector editions to be published in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
