Arena Cheese Earns Best Of Class At US Cheese Championships

Bill Hanson, head cheese maker and partner at Arena Cheese, reported that ARENA CHEESE won BEST OF CLASS at this year’s US CHEESE CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR COLBY cheese by Team Arena. This is the 2nd year in succession that Team Arena won Best of Class for Colby in a national or world cheese championship. In 2014, Arena Cheese won Best of Class at the World Cheese Championships for Colby cheese. This year’s contest had 1885 entrants from 28 states.

Arena’s Colby cheese is marketed under their SPRING GREEN brand. Arena Cheese also produces cheese for several well-known and respected retailer’s brands sold across the USA. SPRING GREEN Colby is authentically made the way Colby was originally made in 1885. Colby cheese was first discovered in the 19th century in Colby, Wisconsin. Arena’s Colby cheese continues that tradition with a creamy, mild, all-natural Colby cheese made in longhorns and deli horns.

Bill Hanson also reported that Arena Cheese passed the BRC Food Safety Audit for 2015 with the highest grade possible in the week prior to the US Cheese Championships. BRC (British Retail Consortium) is one of the food safety programs recognized under the guidelines of the Global Food Safety Initiative or GFSI. Thad Hanson, QA manager, reported that our robust food safety program is in place and gives our customers and consumers the highest level of quality assurance.

In addition to Colby cheese, Arena Cheese makes Colby/Jack (first “discovered” at the plant in 1979), Gouda, an all-natural hardwood Smoked Gouda cheese, Queso de Papa cheese and Colby Caliente (a 3 pepper Colby cheese).
