Crunch Time: NYC Wine & Food Fest Goes Loco For The Taco

Move over, burgers and meatballs. Tacos are shaping up to be the go-to comfort food of the season.

Fish tacos have been gaining ground on menus for some time, and now LA’s Korean taco craze seems poised to hit New York, with both Korilla BBQ truck and Greenpoint’s Cobra Kai Tacos launching this year.

Even high-profile chefs not traditionally associated with Mexican food are professing their passion: “I love tacos,” says Locanda Verde chef Andrew Carmellini, who notes that the taqueria’s vibrant flavors are one of the sources of inspiration for The Dutch, his restaurant opening next month at 131 Sullivan St.

Need further proof? The new marquee event of the NYC Wine & Food Fest, starting tomorrow, is Bobby Flay’s Saturday-night “Tacos & Tequila” bash. More than 1,000 people will be attending 82 Mercer for the event, which claims to be sold out — although taco lovers can try to score a ticket on Craigslist.
