Flat Creek Lodge Dairy Takes Three Awards At World Championship Cheese Contest

Swainsboro, GA After less than five years in the business, the Flat Creek Lodge Dairy brought home three medals at the recent World Championship Cheese Contest in Madison, WI.

The only Georgia dairy to win medals at the competition, Flat Creek Lodge and head cheesemaker Dane Huebner won a Best of Class in the Bandaged Cheddar category for the Natural Rind Cheddar, Best of Class in Surface (Mold) Ripened Mixed Milk Cheese category for the Uneenodae, and a Second Award in the Bandaged Cheddar, Sharp to Aged category for Cypress Cheddar.

“Since we opened the dairy just four years ago, we have worked hard to always improve the quality of our products. These awards show us that we have definitely succeeded in creating very high quality cheeses,” said Flat Creek Lodge owner Caroline Harless.

“With the vast amount of competition from all over the world, I was completely excited to find out about our three wins,” says Huebner. “In particular, the Uneenodae win makes me incredibly proud. This is a new cheese, and its the first time it has competed, so having it take a first place was quite an honor. I actually think its the best product we are making today.” The Uneenodae is made from a 50/50 blend of sheep and cows milk and was introduced just last year.

Located just three hours southeast of Atlanta, the Flat Creek Lodge resort offers an oasis to guests who enjoy being pampered with beautiful scenery, gourmet meals and luxurious surroundings. Flat Creek Lodge also creates an award-winning line of artisanal cow and sheeps milk cheeses that appeal to the most discerning palate.
