PIG Absorbent Spill Pads Offer Complete Cleanup And Help Reduce Bacteria Spread

Tipton, PA Often, foodservice floors can be left slippery and wet when trying to clean up spills, splatters and splashes with paper towels, bar towels, napkins and mops that can drip, fall apart, smell and spread bacteria. These liquid messes create slip and fall hazards and slow productivity.

After 25 years manufacturing absorbent products for industrial cleanup, New Pig Corporation has adapted its technology for use in foodservice environments. The company’s flagship foodservice product, the Pig Absorbent Spill Pad, comes as a disposable, dry pad measuring 17 inches long by 18 inches wide by 1/16 of an inch thick. Each pad can hold up to 20 ounces of a wide range of liquids including fryer oil, cooking grease, water, salad dressing and soda to name a few, and retain those liquids even when saturated. PIG Absorbent Spill Pads are perforated for use in half-size for smaller applications.

Popular traditional cleanup methods such as a mop and bucket, paper towels or bar towels have lower saturation thresholds that require multiple passes to clean up, need a second or third step to remove sticky or oily residue, and especially in the case of a mop and bucket, tend to spread liquid messes as opposed to absorbing them. These methods also require extended drying times, and with certain liquid messes, such as cooking oil drips and spills, fully resolving the mess requires application of a degreaser, a task often put off until the end of the day. Slip and fall hazards remain until these messes dry completely or are fully treated. In comparison, with PIG Absorbent Spill Pads, absorption is fast and complete.

PIG pads, which are disposable, also help reduce the spread of bacteria. Laboratory tests the company commissioned showed that mops, samples of which were taken from active restaurant environments, harbored E. coli and other bacterial contamination.
