Redhead Creamery Wins National Award for Whiskey-Washed Cheese Named For Saint

BROOTEN — Redhead Creamery earned its first American Cheese Society award medal at the society’s 2019 competition in Richmond, Virginia, for a cheese that was born of a miraculous (and delicious) mistake. 

St. Anthony, a whiskey-washed cheese aged for over two months, took second place in the competition’s American Originals category.

The cheese was initially intended to be a cheddar, according to the creamery. But an ingredient issue forced Redhead Creamery president Alise Sjostrom to improvise.
