Disbudded Chrysanthemum Anastasia Star Pink Wins Prestigious Glass Tulip

On 19 January, Deliflor Chrysanten’s innovative disbudded chrysanthemum Anastasia Star Pink won the Glass Tulip 2012. During a festive evening in Hotels van Oranje in Noordwijk (Netherlands), Kwekerij Arcadia was presented with the award. The expert panel of judges voted Anastasia Star Pink to be the product with the most successful market introduction of all 5 nominated cut flowers. A nice detail is that this is the very first time a chrysanthemum has been elected the best market introduction.

As early as Wednesday 15 December, all nominated products were presented to a prominent jury consisting of Rob Verlinden (Dutch TV gardener), Myrna Goossen (Dutch television presenter) and Rudi together with Pascal of 2Dezign (known for their contribution to popular Dutch TV programme ‘Krabbé staat op straat’). Next, the jury assessed all presented products on their market introduction and on added value for consumers. Previously, the products were judged by a professional panel of judges on commercial attractiveness, shelf life, logistics efficiency and the chance of damage during loading. Anastasia Star Pink was judged the best on all these aspects in the ‘Cut Flowers’ category and therefore awarded the Glass Tulip 2012.

The jury praised the unique colour scheme and special look of Anastasia Star Pink. The variety fits in perfectly with the current fashion trends because of its natural appearance. Skin tones are the ultimate trend according to the expert jury. The ‘vintage look’ of Anastasia Star Pink is already a real hit in the UK and Scandinavia.
Its special packaging certainly also contributed to its successful market introduction. Especially for Anastasia Star Pink, an exclusive ‘container box’ was developed, which does not just provide the ideal medium for packaging and transporting the product. Wholesalers can transform this packaging into a beautiful display in a trice.

The Glass Tulip is an annual award presented by FloraHolland to a successful market introduction. Deliflor Chrysanten introduces around fifteen new chrysanthemum varieties via FloraHolland every year. Each variety is marketed in a specific way and given the required support. In the Netherlands, Deliflor Chrysanten sells almost 600 million chrysanthemum cuttings per year and around 60 of its varieties are marketed via FloraHolland every day.
