Floral Design Students Receive Financial Support Through AFE

Four floral design institutions will receive funds totaling more than $16,000 from AFE's James and Helen Phillip Scholarship Fund.

Established in 2008 by a $500,000 donation from TV producer Lee Phillip Bell to honor her parents, James and Helen Phillip, this scholarship provides grants to colleges/institutions that have accredited one-, two-, or four-year floral design programs to provide financial assistance to students pursuing careers in the retail sector of the floral industry.

"These grants will go a long way toward helping people in need while creating a pool of trained workers to fill positions in retail flower shops," said Bell's nephew, AFE Treasurer Jim Phillip. "Because the principal will never be touched, the Fund will leave a perpetual legacy to honor Jim and Helen Phillip — giving back to an industry which they dearly loved."

Current institutions receiving grants through the James and Helen Phillip Scholarship:

Joliet Junior College – Joliet, Illinois
Kishwaukee College – Malta, Illinois
College of Southern Nevada – Las Vegas, Nevada
The Ohio State University Agricultural Department – Wooster, Ohio
