Two of Ontarios best-known growers, Lakeshore Produce and Seacliff
Greenhouses, have decided to merge. Providing financial backing in exchange for
majority ownership is a private investment group.
John Ondejko and his brother, Bob, own Seacliff. I gave John a call for more
details.
According to John, the merger wasnt something theyd been actively pursuing on
their ownLakeshore owners Jim Dertinger and Jim Olsthoorn brought the idea to
them.
Lakeshore approached us and said, Hey, are you guys interested in this kind of
thing? We kind of hemmed and hawed, but the business is pushing all of us, he
said. We see this mega-grower concept coming, and we realize were going to
have to get bigger and provide all these [services]. Do we want to do it [on our
own] or do we want to get together with somebody to do it? Thats the bottom
line.
