Lavender Blue Spear Wins Four Oaks Award

WEST CHICAGO, IL – PanAmerican Seed is pleased to announce that Lavender Blue Spear has won the award for Best Nursery Stock Plant Introduction at the 2019 Four Oaks Trade Show, where it was introduced through our UK distribution partner Ball Colegrave.

Four Oaks is a commercial horticultural show now in its 50th year. The venue is a 23-acre nursery site in Cheshire, UK, and covers an area of 17,000m² under glass with additional outdoor areas. The visitor profile includes commercial growers, grower/retailers, garden centers, farm shops, landscapers, garden designers, local authorities, and florists.

Lavender Blue Spear is bred by PanAmerican Seed under the helm of breeder Martijn Baijens with product manager Cor Dr Jong – both based the PanAmerican Seed Vehnuizen location in The Netherlands. It is the showiest English Lavender you can grow and sell with bigger, taller spikes than other seed lavender. Its upright flower stems stand closer to each other for huge impact from a distance. Blue Spear is very easy to grow, with high uniformity, good habit and earliness (when grown with minimum 12-hour daylength). It has USDA Hardiness in zones 6a to 8b.

Blue Spear is particularly ideal for patio containers, garden beds, rock gardens, cut flowers, dried flowers, is highly attractive to pollinating insects and of course carries that special “feel-good” lavender fragrance. This hardy variety is ideal for a full sun location, providing lasting pleasure and scent over a very long season.
