Parkside Orchid Nursery: An Oasis Of Orchids

A drive down Mountain View Drive in Tinicum Township near Ottsville is pretty dismal this time of year. The trees lining the road and Lake Nockamixon are barely budding. No wildflowers are in bloom. Add a chilly April shower, and the feeling is simply gray.
But just a short distance down the road sits a building that is filled with colorful, exotic blooms — blooms that do not grow natively in Southeastern Pennsylvania. It's Parkside Orchid Nursery — truly an orchid paradise.
For nearly 20 years, its owners, John Salventi and Tom Purviance, have attracted orchid hobbyists and neophytes, alike, with hundreds of different varieties of orchids from Hawaii, Asia and South America.
