Perk Up Patios With Potted Citrus

Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida — Record Buck Farms announces the availability of Patio/Indoor citrus for shipment from Florida. Restrictions in place for the past six years have been lifted and product can now be shipped to all states except Louisiana, Texas, Arizona and California. The line of citrus varieties is also available for shipment to Canada. Record Buck Farms is one of only two Florida nurseries certified under State and Federal regulations to ship citrus plant material outside of Florida.

Citrus plants for the interstate market are typically produced in 8” and 10” pots and can be maintained in colder climates on the patio or deck in the summer and indoors during the winter. Varieties for the patio market generally consist of lemons, limes, calamondin, and kumquat. These varieties are self-pollinating and ever-bearing, producing fragrant blooms and fruit.

Citrus plants have been very popular in the consumer market. Picking your own citrus and watching the young fruit grow to mature size is rewarding and fun. Consumers use the fruit in beverages and for cooking. “We’ve had great response from retail supermarkets wanting to offer their customers something unique. This is a grow-and-harvest-your-own type of product so the interactive aspect seems especially appealing,” says sales manager, Matt Finney. He adds, “Consumers are already familiar with the nutrition qualities of fresh citrus. Now they can enjoy growing citrus on their patio, deck or balcony in the summer. When cold weather hits, they’ll bring it inside and the plant continues to bear fruit all winter.”

The colorful care tag on each potted citrus plant has a simple Q & A for curious consumers: Q: Can I leave it in the pot? A: Yes. On the back of the water resistant tag, plant care information and a recipe using the specific fruit variety, is offered in English and Spanish. Consumers are also directed to Mycitrustree.com for more information.
