The Hy-Vee grocery chain totals more than 200 stores, and the last two years, Shannon Ahlman of Grand Island has been the best floral designer at all of them.
Ahlman, who is the floral manager of the Grand Island store, won Hy-Vee’s Extreme Floral Design competition in 2016 and 2017. The first-place honor comes with a $2,000 cash prize.
Ahlman competes first at the regional event, which is in Omaha. This past year, 47 designers took part that event, which is the largest Hy-Vee regional.
