Wondering How To Co-Sell Perennials & Annuals? McGregor Maps Profit Potential With First-Year Blooming Perennials

Carlsbad, Calif. – Looking to time annuals and perennials for maximum profit and product appeal? McGregor is making it easy with a full line of first-year blooming perennials that can be grown and sold alongside annuals.

“Pair these perennials with your popular annuals to add product depth, variety and a higher price point item,” said Cathy McClintock, McGregor Plant Sales CEO. “It’s a great opportunity to expand your market, upgrade mixed containers with unique flowering features, and use production space after annuals have been shipped.”

Optimizing production space isn’t the only benefit, though it’s certainly a key—since these perennials bloom readily, growers can use greenhouses over a longer period.

Growing first-year blooming perennials offers other benefits as well, including reduced production costs thanks to shorter crop times since vernalized perennials are often started the summer before the season they’re sold. Plus, because no vernalization is necessary, first-year bloomers are easier to produce.

Minimum quantity per variety is 100 cuttings. A typical box of cuttings is 5,000 cuttings.
