American Meat Science Association & Elanco Expand Partnership

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Elanco Animal Health has committed to a new Diamond level Sustaining Partnership with the American Meat Science Association (AMSA). For more than 50 years, the AMSA has worked closely with partners to maintain community and professional development programs and opportunities for individuals in the field of meat science. The Sustaining Partners program recognize these organizations and institutions that provide significant financial and logistical contributions for the association’s education and outreach programs.

Elanco is one of over thirty companies and institutions currently in the program. Elanco is a global, innovation-driven company that develops and markets products and services to improve animal health and protein production in more than 75 countries. This dedication to enhancing animal health through science and innovations is exhibited through Elanco’s Diamond Sustaining Partnership with AMSA.

“Elanco has been a long-time partner of AMSA because of their credibility and commitment to science focused on protein production and processing,” said William C. (Bill) Weldon, vice president of R&D at Elanco. “Using sound science and innovation will be critically important as we look to feed a global population growing to 9 billion people.”

The Sustaining Partnership program enables these companies and institutions to acknowledge and further align under a common goal to foster the principles of meat science and technology. Our Sustaining Partners have enhanced AMSA programs such as student development, scientific information outreach and building the global network of meat science professionals. The program includes five levels of partnership – Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

“The relationship between AMSA and its Sustaining Partners is an important part of our strategic plan and one that we take very seriously.  Continued engagement with these partners yields benefits to the field of Meat Science and the Meat Industry.  We look forward to exploring new opportunities with Elanco Animal Health and all of our sustaining partners in the future” states Robert Delmore, AMSA president and professor, Colorado State University.

Elanco Animal Health has been an essential part in supporting the AMSA Reciprocal Meat Conference and PORK 101 short course, programs designed to bring individuals together for a mutual exchange of ideas and scientific information.  Later next week Elanco Animal Health will be working the with AMSA Student membership at the 2014 Student Leadership Conference,  providing insight into their personalities and essential tools to equip over 70 students for their future careers.

Elanco Animal Health will be the prime sponsor for the American Royal Intercollegiate Meat Judging contest that will take place at Nebraska Beef later this fall. The intercollegiate meat judging program is designed to educate, train and prepare students with the necessary tools and professional development to succeed in their future careers.

“This partnership builds upon our mission, with all of our Sustaining Partners, to explore new opportunities as we continue to enrich AMSA’s programs,” states Thomas Powell, AMSA executive director.
